Log Collector

Introduction

Log Collector O11ySource is designed to gather, aggregate and store log data generated by various software applications, systems, or devices from Linux/Windows operating system. In the context of information technology, logs are records of events or activities that occur within a system. These events could include error messages, warnings, user actions, security events, and more.

Compatibility

Log Collector O11ySource can be configured to collect logs from Linux, Windows, AIX and Solaris systems.

Data Collection Method

VuNet's Logbeat and vuLogAgent are used to collect logs from any compatible system based on system OS.

Prerequisites

Inputs for Configuring Data Source

• Application Name: Data source name to uniquely identify the source.
• Host: Name/Address of the host where the application is running
• Log configuration: Please provide the log configuration
• Ignore Time: This option will ignores any files that were modified before the specified timespan.
• Log Path: Please input the correct log path from which log messages are to be read. Ensure that the path is compatible with the operating system of the host. Note that Windows paths will not function on a Linux OS server.
• Operating System: Specify the type of operating system

Firewall Requirement

To collect data from this O11ySource, ensure the following ports are opened:

Logs Server IP	vuSmartMaps Data Collector IP	9094	TCP	Inbound

*Before providing the firewall requirements, please update the port based on the customer environment.

Configuring the Target

Logbeat/vuLogAgent should be running in the server from where logs are to be collected.

Configuration Steps

• Enable the Log Collector O11ySource.
• Select the sources tab and click the + button to add a new instance to be monitored.
• Enter the fields Application Name, Operating System, Host and add Log Configuration.
• Once you have finished configuring the data sources, click the Save and Continue button to download the agent.
• The following packages will be available for download based on the OS: Download <OS> <Agent> Installation Package- Downloads the full agent package with required configurations for a fresh installationDownload <OS> <Agent> Config Update Package- Downloads the agent configuration package to update an existing installation
• Download the agent installer or update package, then click Finish to close the data source window.

The metrics are based on the input data collected.
